A small space for big ideas
The Gallery Cafe has long been a launchpad for emerging artists, musicians, poets and writers. We make the room available for readings, workshops, conversations and community programmes — at a scale where the audience and the person speaking share the same space.
This is not an auditorium. There is no stage, no green room and no back row.
It is a café inside an art complex, with room for around twenty-four people, good acoustics for a speaking voice, and walls that already have something to say. Programmes that work here are the ones that benefit from being close — where a reader can see everyone’s face, where a workshop participant can be handed a brush, where a question doesn’t need a microphone.
If your programme needs scale, we’re the wrong room. If it needs intimacy, there isn’t a better one in Banjara Hills.
Books, writers and conversations
Authors, publishers, translators, reading groups and literary communities are welcome to host launches, readings, moderated discussions, poetry sessions and conversations with readers.
We’ve found that a room of twenty-four buys a book more reliably than a hall of two hundred.

Workshops that work in a room like this
We host small, seated, participatory workshops in art, craft, writing, photography, design and food culture. Organisers bring the programme; we bring the room, the tables, the coffee and the audience who already come here.
Clean-hands crafts work best. We can’t accommodate hazardous chemicals, heavy machinery, kilns, or anything that permanently alters the space — and we’d rather say that upfront than halfway through your setup.

Performance at a human scale
We host selected low-amplification performances where the format suits the room and the comfort of other guests.

Usually within a week, with a yes, a no, or a suggestion for a different shape.

Timings, food, promotion, ticketing if relevant, and who does what.
A note on selection. We read every proposal. We don’t accept every proposal — not because of quality, but because a café with one room can only do so much, and some programmes genuinely belong in a larger venue. A no from us isn’t a judgement on your work.

Before you propose
Can I organise a workshop here?
Yes. We host small seated workshops in art, craft, writing, photography, design and food culture. Send us a proposal with what you have in mind, the date and the expected audience, and we’ll come back within a week.
Can authors conduct book readings?
Yes — readings, launches, author conversations and poetry sessions all work well in this room. A full room of 24 tends to sell more books than a half-empty hall.
Are ticketed events permitted?
Yes. Ticketing arrangements are agreed case by case when we confirm the programme, and we’ll be clear about them before you commit. CONFIRM: do you take a share of ticket revenue?
Does the café provide equipment?
We provide the room, seating, tables and service. Anything beyond that — display boards, screens, materials — should be discussed when you propose, and is often something you’ll bring yourself. CONFIRM: what equipment actually exists
Can performers use amplification?
