The Gallery Cafe sits inside Kalakriti Art Complex, alongside one of Hyderabad’s established contemporary galleries. Paintings, objects and artist-made furniture make a setting that changes as the exhibitions change.
Almost everything you can see is for sale
The hand-painted chairs. The tables. The plates on the wall. The canvases. The sculptures on the shelves.
Nearly every interior element in this café was made by an artist, and nearly all of it is available to buy — with proceeds shared with the artist who made it. It means the café works as a gallery you’re allowed to eat in, and it means artists’ work ends up in the homes of people who came for a sandwich.

Chairs that were painted, not manufactured
The café’s furniture is the result of collaborations with artists who treated a chair the way they’d treat a canvas. No two are the same. Some have been here since the beginning; others arrived with an exhibition and stayed.

About buying
Can I really buy the chair I’m sitting on?
In most cases yes. The hand-painted furniture, the works on the walls and the objects on the shelves are nearly all available. A few pieces are on loan or part of the gallery’s own collection — we’ll tell you straight away if what you have your eye on is one of them.
What sort of prices are we talking about?
It ranges widely, from small prints and objects up to substantial original works. There is no obligation and no minimum — people buy a single plate as often as they buy a painting. Ask about anything and we’ll tell you the price without a sales conversation attached. CONFIRM: publish an indicative range if you are comfortable
Do the artists actually get paid?
Yes. Proceeds are shared with the artist who made the piece. That arrangement is the reason the café is full of original work rather than reproductions, and it is why artists keep bringing us new things.
Can you ship a piece to another city?
Packing and delivery are arranged case by case depending on the size and fragility of the work. Tell us where it needs to go when you enquire and we will come back with what it involves. CONFIRM: do you ship outside Hyderabad, and who pays
Can I commission something similar?
Sometimes. Several of the artists we work with take commissions, and the gallery team can put you in touch. Say so in your enquiry and we’ll ask on your behalf.
